Programs
A-Grame Tennis Academy Coaching Programs are based on the recently developed Tennis Australia Player Development Matrix.  This structure establishes a set of skill competencies, which athletes should progress through as they develop.  These competencies cover tennis specific components of technical, tactical, physical & psychological development.  There are 6 stages of development within the matrix:

  • Explore (4 – 7 years)
  • Development (7 - 10 years)
  • Encourage (10 - 12 years)
  • Enhance (12 – 15 years)
  • Cultivate (15 – 17 years)
  • Performance (17+ years)

Players in the Explore & Development stages are part of the Official Tennis Australia Starter Program “Hot Shots” that utilizes a modified ball and smaller court.  “Playing the game” is emphasized, rather than just learning skills.

Junior players at Geelong Lawn Tennis Club also benefit from an integrated junior development program that provides;

  • School Holiday Junior Tennis Tournaments
  • Weekly match play competitions
  • School Holiday Training Camps
  • Organized Trips to Interstate Tournaments

Place

Junior players at GLTC have a great opportunity to train and play on all three grand slam surfaces, grass (Wimbledon), clay (French Open) and acrylic hard-court (US Open & Australian Open).  Very few facilities Australia wide have this diversity of playing surface.  Tennis Australia recommends that aspiring junior players train and compete on these surfaces.  GLTC also offers a relaxing and pleasant environment for players & parents with a modern clubhouse, and excellent amenities.

Program Structure

Hot Shots - Explore (4 – 7 years)

This program combines a 30 minute lesson with 30 minutes of “playing the game” on a smaller court, using a smaller racquet and softer balls.   Players develop fundamental motor skills, as well as acquiring basic tennis technique.  The program is divided up into four separate stages before graduation to the “Development” stage.

Hot Shots - Development (7 – 10 years)

Basic locomotor skills are refined in this 60 minute class, as players use a modified ball still, but play on a larger (but not full size) court.  Players are able to rally the ball with more consistency as they progress through the four stages of the “Development” stage.

Hot Shots - Encourage Stage (10 - 12 years)

Technical, tactical, physical & psychological competencies are all developed in this 60 minute lesson as players train on a full size court.

Squad Program – Enhance, Cultivate & Perform (10 – 17 years)

Aimed at the junior player who aspires to a national ranking, these classes are for at least 90 minutes, with a greater emphasis on physical training & tactical competencies.
