The club's Premier League teams kept their hopes alive with some important wins in rounds 2 & 3 of the competition.
The Men had a nail biting win over MCC on Saturday, which came down to the last rubber to decide the result. #1 Josh Crowe was too strong for MCC's #1, whilst team captain Matthew Hicks was impressive with a three set win over Taso Vasiliadis. #6 Matthew Holschier was 6-1 4-1 down, but came back to win 7-6 in the third set, saving three match points in the process. On Sunday, the team went down 7-2 to a solid Kooyong LTC team, who are unbeaten on top of the ladder.
The Womens team started well against Kooyong LTC, winning two out of the three doubles rubbers. Unfortunately, they were the only wins, as the Kooyong team, led by world ranked #260 Sally Peers were too strong in the singles rubbers. It was a different story on Sunday when the team lost two rubbers against Grace Park LTC. #1 Daniella Dominikovic was impressive in a 6-3 6-2 win over Alison Bai, whilst Vicky Stuckey and Brianna Bateup also had straight set wins.
The stage is now set for season defining matches on Sunday at home. The Men have an interesting assignment against Grace Park TC, who are ahead of them in 4th place. The team is combining well though, with David Treflea providing a solid replacement for the loss of nominated #1 Sadik Kadir. The Women would be favourites against bottom placed Royal South Yarra LTC, and a win would move them into at least 3rd place.
