For many years GLTC club members have known that their club was one of Victoria's best. Well, now it's official!
At a gala event on October 18 at the RACV City Club, Community Clubs Association of Victoria (CCAV) presented their 2011 Annual Awards to clubs, in recognition of the contributions to their members and local communities. In presenting the awards, CCAV’s President Mr Leon Wiegard, OAM, said “Victorian clubs perform a valuable and unique role in sustaining healthy communities. They keep people active and engaged as well as providing a broad range of facilities and resources”.
A highlight of the awards was the presentation of Country Club of the Year Award to Geelong Lawn Tennis Club. This award is given to the premier, regionally based club that can demonstrate its ability to surpass any geographical constraints to provide an array of member facilities and services, as well as the best contribution to its local area, or improved community benefits over the past year. CCAV is a peak body representing the interests of these community clubs from small volunteer-based sporting clubs through to very large clubs with multi-million dollar turnovers. CCAV members have one overriding thing in common; they are not-for-profit entities that provide facilities, support and entertainment for their members and broader communities.
