Club members, visitors and players in the Annual Ladies Tournament received a rare treat on Tuesday 1st December when the club was part of the inaugral Australian Open Trophy Tour. Geelong was selected as one of only four regional centres to receive a visit by Australian Open Ambassadors, Todd Woodbridge & Nicole Bradtke, who accompanied the Australian Open trophies, the Norman Brookes Challenge Cup & the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup.
Club Members Jacqui McGrath, Raelene Pearce & Anouk Saraber were some of those lucky enough to gain the trust of the security guards assigned to looking after the trophies & don white gloves and hold the trophies aloft. Todd Woodbridge & Nicole Bradtke spoke to the gathering about their experiences playing in the Australian Open, and recounted some amusing stories where they faced off in the mixed doubles final, and also unsuccessfully partnered each other. Ladies playing in the annual tournament were very keen to get advice from Todd about overcoming nerves, and how to approach playing in finals. Todd & Nicole also expressed their views on who the promising Australian juniors are, and whether Lleyton Hewitt has another Grand Slam title in him.
