2010 Victorian Grass Court Championships

The tables were turned at the 2010 Geelong City Motors Victorian Grass Court Championships when 16 yearl old Azra Hadzic had an emphatic victory in the Womens final over her 2009 opponent Viktorija Rajicic.

Cadel Assists Fundraising

The club was fortunate recently to have world champion cyclist Cadel Evans speak at a fundraising luncheon at the Lord Of The Isles Tavern. Cadel had the small group capativated with his insights into the world of professional road racing, whilst former Wimbledon doubles champion & Channel 7 commentator Alan Stone provided an analysis of the nations tennis fortunes, as well as a behind the scenes look at the grand slam events.

Premier League Teams Successful

Geelong Lawn Tennis Club Premier League teams showed that they are genuine contenders for finals success during the "double-header" weekend on 23rd & 24th October. The Womens team had strong wins over finals favourites Kooyong LTC and Royal South Yarra LTC, only losing two rubbers in each match. Alenka Hubacek and Olivia Rich dominated their rivals, with the only blemish Alenka's straight sets singles loss to RYSLTC's Jessica Engels. The team now approaches the last match against Dendy Park with confidence, knowing that a good result will guarantee a place in the grand final, surely an enticing prospect for a team that has played better each match.

Club Celebrates Premier League Return

After an absence of 54 years, there was every expectation that the return of Premier League Pennant tennis to Geelong Lawn Tennis Club would make an impact, and Sunday October 10th certainly delivered in every way. The weather was perfect, the level of play scintillating, and the atmosphere was enjoyed by all. From the moment the first ball was struck, and the umpire called "Game, Geelong Lawn", until Matthew Holschier fired down the final ace to seal victory over Kooyong Lawn TC in his singles match, the hundreds of spectators were treated to a festival of tennis.
