Premier League Teams Win

The club's Premier League teams kept their hopes alive with some important wins in rounds 2 & 3 of the competition.

Premier League Teams Defeated

Defending Men's Premier League Champion Liston Tennis Club showed on the weekend that they will be a force to contend for the title again, with a clean sweep of doubles & singles matches against Geelong Lawn TC on Sunday at Williamstown. Geelong struggled without #1 player Sadik Kadir, who was unavailable due to tournament committments overseas. Josh Crowe had no answer to the booming serve of Liston #1 Sam Groth, losing 6-1 7-5, whilst Matthew Hicks competed well against Nick Lindahl, going down in a tight two sets 6-3 6-4. The final score line for the day was 9-0 in rubbers for Liston TC, which underlined their superiority.

2011 Premier League Pennant

Tennis Victoria recently announced that Geelong Lawn Tennis Club would again be part of Premier League Pennant tennis in 2011, with the successful nomination of both Mens & Womens teams. Formerly known as State Grade, Premier League is a team based format with only six clubs in Victoria taking part in the six week competition, commencing on Sunday October 2nd. The teams competing are some of Victorias largest and include Geelong Lawn Tennis Club, Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club, Grace Park Tennis Club, MCC, Liston Tennis Club, Dingley Tennis Club, Dendy Park Tennis Club and Royal South Yarra. Presentation to 1000th Member

Club President Bob Spurling admits that when he set the ambitious target in 2006 of 1000 members by 2012, he thought he might have set the bar a little too high... So at the Annual General Meeting on Friday 19th August, he was very pleased to recognize the club's 1000th member Karen Best with a special presentation. Karen was the very happy recipient of a Wilson tennis racquet & a special gift from Bon Bon Bouquets (www.bonbonbouquets.com.au)
