Over 130 members and guests attended the inaugaral Presidents Dinner at Lyndon Grove Receptions in Grovedale, and had a great evening. A beautiful meal was provided by club sponsor Richard Kelly from The RK Group, and club member Imogen Brough added to the ambience with her lovely voice & some contemporary music.
Club President Bob Spurling outlined some of the club successes over the past twelve months, and drew attention to the great service provided to the club by a number of outstanding volunteers. Centenary Club Historian & club member Graeme Kinross-Smith took the audience through the process of weaving tennis into a fictional novel with his latest book, "Long Afternoon Of The World". A highlight of the evening was the entertaining and informative session with Channel 7 tennis commentator interviewing Tennis Australia CEO Steve Wood. Steve provided a great insight into the Australian Open, the players themselves, and the challenges faced by the sport. In a candid moment, when asked about the demands of difficult "tennis parents", Steve said "You get very good at saying no..." After the success of the evening, the club has resolved to make the Presidents Dinner an annual event in early February each year.
